The Emotion Code: How to Release Your Trapped Emotions for Abundant Health, Love, and Happiness

Bradley Nelson explains his method for finding emotions he believes stay stuck in the body, using muscle testing and the sway test, and for releasing them with a magnet so they stop driving your reactions.

Table of Content

Plenty of people carry reactions they cannot explain: a temper that flares at a harmless remark, a fear with no clear cause, an ache no test accounts for. In The Emotion Code, Bradley Nelson, a chiropractor and energy healing practitioner, argues that many of these come from emotions never fully felt or let go, which stay lodged in the body as energy. By his count, the average person carries more than a hundred.

His method follows from that claim. Ask the body yes-or-no questions to find these trapped emotions, clear them with an ordinary magnet, and then choose a better feeling for the moment you are in. Nelson presents this as reaching a root that talking alone can miss. What follows traces his reasoning, from the idea that bodies are energy to the step-by-step method and the snags beginners hit, so you can try his sway test tonight and judge for yourself what his clients report.

A capable student kept failing the same exam, and nothing in her study habits explained it. A single session uncovered discouragement that had been trapped since she was fifteen, when her parents divorced.

One irritable person walks into a meeting and the whole room tightens. Nelson offers an explanation that starts inside the atom and ends with something you can try before your next conversation.

A woman arrived certain she was having a heart attack, even though she believed she had already healed the wound behind it. What Nelson found shows how a resolved past can still be running the present.

Ancient physicians noticed that angry people and grieving people tended to fall ill in different organs. Nelson builds on that observation, and his clients’ stories about pain that eased are the most startling in the book.

Stand still, say your own name, and your body may answer before your mind does. Nelson describes two tests that he says let the subconscious speak, and one of them needs no partner at all.

After all the searching, the release takes an object most kitchens already have. Nelson explains why he thinks it works, and what to do when your test keeps giving the same answer.

Your boss waves away a week of careful work, and the sting arrives before you can think. Nelson lays out what to do in the next few minutes so that moment does not become tomorrow’s baggage.

Nelson’s book rests on one picture. Feelings are energy, and energy that never finishes its cycle stays behind, showing up as exam nerves, a fear of flying, or chest pain three years after an affair. Talking it through can leave that residue in place, which is why Debbie, who did everything right, still carried her heartache. His method goes after the leftover itself, using the body’s yes and no to find it and a magnet to clear it.

Whatever you make of the energy claims, the habits the book asks for are easy to try. Stand still tonight, say your real name and then a false one, and notice which way you lean. When a reaction feels bigger than the moment, ask what older feeling it might be echoing. When Debbie arrived with heart attack symptoms, Nelson first made sure she was not having one before testing her for a trapped emotion. And before you open the door to a meeting or to your home, build up some gratitude and see whether the room shifts with you.

A feeling you name today has less chance of staying with you for years.

About this book

What is this book about?

Most people know that feelings affect how they think and act. Bradley Nelson goes further. He argues that emotions we never fully experience or let go of become trapped in the body as balls of energy, and that the average person carries more than a hundred of them. In his view they drive overreactions, phobias, exam failures and even physical pain, often years after the event that created them. Nelson's angle is energetic. He draws on quantum physics, Masaru Emoto's water crystal experiments and acupuncture's grand meridian to argue that bodies are energy and that stuck energy can be found and cleared. His tools are muscle testing, which he says reads the subconscious mind through the body's strong or weak responses, and an ordinary magnet passed along the spine. Readers get a step-by-step method: how to run the arm test and the sway test, how to use the free emotion chart, how to release what they find, what to do when results seem off, and how to handle a fresh hurt, such as a dismissive boss, before it becomes the next trapped emotion.

Finally got around to finishing this after a friend recommended it for my recurring anxiety. I was honestly surprised by how the author makes complex energy concepts feel so approachable and easy to digest for a layperson. While some might find the idea of 'trapped emotions' being the size of a melon a bit out there, the exercises for releasing past baggage actually made a noticeable difference in my daily mood. I felt like a heavy weight had been lifted from my chest after working through the identification steps. Truth is, even if it’s just a powerful psychological shift, the value you get for the price of a paperback is incredible. It’s a helpful tool for anyone looking to understand themselves better without spending thousands on traditional therapy sessions.

After hearing so much about the 'Emotion Code' in my yoga circles, I decided to dive in and see what the fuss was about. The way Dr. Nelson breaks down how our past experiences manifest as physical energy is truly eye-opening. I love how the book isn't bogged down by overly academic jargon, making it accessible for people who are totally new to energy work. Using the chart to identify specific feelings like 'betrayal' or 'grief' helped me pin down exactly why I’ve been feeling so stuck lately. Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about the magnet part at first, but the results speak for themselves in terms of my overall well-being. It’s a life-changing resource that I’ll be recommending to all my family members who are struggling with their past.

Wow. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading, but this book has completely changed how I view my emotional health. The concept of trapped emotions acting like actual balls of energy within the body makes so much sense when you actually think about it. Dr. Nelson provides such clear explanations that you can start practicing the techniques almost immediately after reading the first few chapters. I’ve been using the method to clear old blockages related to my childhood, and I feel lighter and more energetic than I have in years. Frankly, it’s one of the most helpful tools I’ve ever discovered for personal growth and emotional freedom. Every household should have a copy of this for those times when life feels too heavy to carry alone.

As someone who is always looking to expand my skill set in the holistic health space, I found this book to be a goldmine. The author’s straightforward approach makes it incredibly easy to learn the system and start helping others right away. I’ve already noticed a shift in my own stress levels after identifying and releasing a few key emotions I didn't even know were there. The book is highly readable and packed with information that feels both new and strangely intuitive at the same time. Not gonna lie, the results I’ve seen so far make it feel like an incredible value for the money. If you’re ready to let go of the past and improve your well-being, this is the perfect guide to get you started on that path.

This book is an excellent addition to my wellness toolkit, especially as someone who already works in the holistic healing arts. The author’s straightforward approach to identifying emotional blockages provides a practical framework that almost anyone can follow. I appreciated the clear explanations regarding the 'Heart Wall' and how we subconsciously protect ourselves from further pain after a trauma. While I don't necessarily subscribe to all the religious undertones mentioned throughout the chapters, the core message about energy remains universal and powerful. Frankly, the techniques for releasing these trapped energies are easy to implement and have already helped several of my clients feel more grounded. It’s a great value for the money if you’re looking for actionable steps rather than just dry theory.

The chapter on the 'Heart Wall' was worth the price of the book alone for me. It gave me a brand new perspective on why I’ve struggled with intimacy and emotional vulnerability for most of my adult life. Nelson’s writing is very readable, and he does a great job of keeping the reader engaged with various case studies and success stories. My only gripe is that the process feels a little too simplistic at times for very deep-seated, complex traumas. In my experience, these things usually take more time to unravel than just a few swipes of a magnet over a meridian. Still, as a self-help tool, it’s remarkably effective and provides a clear roadmap for anyone wanting to start their healing journey on their own terms.

Picked this up because I wanted a more proactive way to deal with my chronic back pain that wasn't just another prescription. The instructions are remarkably clear, and I found the step-by-step guide to be much more practical than other energy healing books I've tried. I particularly liked the focus on 'inherited' emotions, which helped me understand some of the baggage I’ve been carrying from my parents and grandparents. Truth is, even if you don’t believe in the metaphysical aspects, the process of naming your feelings is a great psychological exercise. It’s an informative and affordable resource that gives you a sense of agency over your own health. I’m definitely planning to keep this on my shelf for future reference when life gets overwhelming.

Ever wonder if your physical pain is actually just old memories stuck in your joints? Dr. Nelson presents a fascinating premise, but I found the heavy reliance on muscle testing and magnets a bit hard to swallow. To be fair, the writing is clear and the anecdotes are compelling, even if they often feel a bit like eyewitness testimony rather than hard science. I struggled with the idea that my subconscious could navigate a complex chart just by me swaying back and forth in my living room. It’s an informative read that definitely makes you think about the mind-body connection in a new way. However, I’m still on the fence about whether these results are just a very effective placebo effect in action. It's worth a look if you're curious about alternative healing.

A mixed bag for me, though I can see why it has helped so many people find relief from their burdens. On one hand, the premise that we store stress in our bodies is backed by plenty of modern psychology and trauma research. On the other hand, the method of assessment via applied kinesiology felt a bit 'woo-woo' and difficult to replicate consistently. I found myself questioning whether I was getting true answers from my subconscious or just pushing my fingers the way I wanted them to go. To be fair, the book is very informative and the author’s passion for helping others is evident on every page. It’s a decent read if you have an open mind, but be prepared to encounter some ideas that challenge traditional scientific views.

Not what I expected given all the five-star hype surrounding this title on social media lately. As with most pseudoscience, it starts with a somewhat believable premise about stress affecting the body, but then it quickly veers into magnets and charts. I found the 'muscle testing' segments to be completely unreliable and subjective when I tried them myself. Look, I’m all for alternative healing, but telling people they can cure chronic illness by waving a refrigerator magnet over their head feels a bit irresponsible to me. The writing style is readable enough, but the lack of scientific backing makes it hard to take the instructions seriously. If you're looking for a rigorous look at emotional health, you might want to keep searching for something more grounded in reality.

Questions about this book

Nelson argues that emotions we never fully feel or release become trapped in the body as energy. By his count the average person carries more than a hundred, and he links them to overreactions, phobias, failures under pressure and physical pain. His method uses muscle testing to find each trapped emotion, a chart to identify it, and a magnet passed along the spine to release it.

Stand upright with your feet at shoulder width and relax completely. Say your real name, and within about ten seconds, Nelson says, your body should lean forward. Say a false name and it should lean back. Once that baseline works, ask yes-or-no questions, starting with whether you have a trapped emotion, then use the chart to narrow down what it is and where it is held.

After finding the emotion, you pass a magnet, even an ordinary fridge magnet, three times along the grand meridian, which runs up the spine, over the head and down to the forehead. Nelson believes magnets amplify intention and help cancel the emotion’s energy, much like noise-canceling headphones. You then test whether it has gone and repeat the passes if it has not.

Nelson offers several fixes. Clear your mind with a deep breath and press only lightly, about as hard as you would hold a ladybug. If everything tests weak, the body may be in overload after many releases, which usually passes in about thirty seconds. If everything tests strong, try drinking water or consider a misaligned neck. When testing others, keep clearing yourself so you do not project your own emotions.

Nelson describes a routine for fresh hurts, like a boss dismissing your work. Breathe into the feeling and accept it, name it, then ask whether something older is amplifying it. Release any trapped emotion you find, test until the feeling clears, and choose a replacement, such as curiosity in place of rejection. He also suggests building up gratitude before entering a room.
